BOTOX® Cosmetic
Patients with prominent facial lines may benefit from BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Common treatment areas include frown lines, crow's feet lines and horizontal forehead lines. Also known as hyperdynamic facial lines, these lines result in part from repeated contraction of underlying facial muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved medical treatment for smoothing out hyperdynamic frown lines. The medication works by temporarily weakening the muscles responsible for the skin creases.
BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is also useful for softening horizontal forehead lines and crow's feet lines. In certain patients, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be used for facial sculpting to help improve brow position/shape, soften vertical lip lines, eliminate chin creasing (orange peel appearance) or reverse drooping at the corners of the mouth.
The medication typically works for a period of 3 to 4 months. A small percentage of patients who initially respond to the treatment do not respond upon subsequent treatments (because they develop antibodies against the medication). Some patients will have a better overall result if BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are combined with filler injections or skin smoothing treatments.
